Cardoso aka Mr C raises cinematography bar with Banana Island Ghost
The issue of technique in the Nigerian movie industry has always been criticised. Most times even when the acting or stories could pass, technical issues such as sound, cinematography, and editing remain unimpressive. But since the premiere of Banana Island Ghost, with cinematographer, Ola Cardoso of Cardoso Imagery handling the shots, some observers in the entertainment industry are of the opinion that other practitioners should take a cue from the expertise perfected in the film.
The star-studded, action-comedy film stars ‘Chigul’ Chioma Omeruah as Ijeoma, who is paired with Patrick Diabuah, the Ghost. The Ghost has three days to fall in love and she will do anything to save her father’s house in Banana Island from the bank coming to reclaim it in those three days.
While speaking to newsmen shortly after the premiere, Cardoso, who obviously raised the bar in the area of photography, stated that shooting the movie was a major leap in his career. Also the brain behind the musical videos of notable artistes in the country, Cardoso said he was drawn to movies because of his vast experience in the field, coupled with his previous jobs that have earned him recognition from far and near.
According to him, “When I was contacted for the job, I knew it was not the kind of job that comes from the regular stuff that we do. It was capital intensive project that would raise the bar in many years to come. So, what the people saw at the cinema is not what they are used to and I am glad that their expectations of the movie are met.” Banana Island Ghost, which has its trailer reportedly crossing over one million views on YouTube, is set to hit the cinemas across the country and the producers have assured the people of the value for their money.
Banana Island Ghost is written and directed by BB Sasore and produced by Omorinsojo Spaine and Tolu Olusoga, with Biola Alabi and Derin Adeyokunnu as Executive Producers, while the Co-Executive Producers are Dr. Ayo Osunrinade, founder of FreeMe Digital, Mr. Michael Ugwu and Ms. Adenike Adekanbi of HTB Entertainment Studios, Mr. Niyi Toluwalope and Mr. Basheer Tosi
