"American Idol" has narrowed down the contestants to 14. But before that, the twelve singers who performed yesterday took the stage again on Thursday, February 18 for duets with former "Idol" contestants Kellie Pickler, David Cook, Chris Daughtry, Jordin Sparks, Haley Reinhart and Constantine Maroulis.
Amelia Eisenhauer was joined by Kellie for a performance of "Suds in the Bucket" by Sara Evans. Kellie also sang the same song ten years ago in season 5. They both had a lot of fun and Keith Urban said Amelia "stepped up to the plate in a big way."
Kory Wheeler and Haley teamed up for a cover of Elton John's "Bennie and the Jets". Jennifer Lopez said "it was a nice pairing," and Harry Connick Jr. had "nothing negative to say."
Lee Jean was up next with Chris. They sang Chris' original song, "Home", and played guitar. Keith loved Lee's interpretation of the song that made it seem to be a classic, while Harry praised him for being "controlled," "focused and passionate."
David was paired with CJ Johnson. They delivered a rendition of Collective Soul's "The World I Know" which David performed in season 7. CJ struggled with the pitch at the beginning, but Harry and Keith thought their voices blended really well. J.Lo, meanwhile, wished "it would have been a little more of a bring the audience up type of performance."
Manny Torres was joined by Jordin to sing her hit "No Air". J.Lo said "it was the perfect marriage of you two," despite the fact that Jordin outsang him a bit. Harry said they both had charisma on stage.
Constantine and Jenn Brosil sang "My Funny Valentine" by Frank Sinatra. After their sultry performance, J.Lo called it a perfect duet. Harry thought it was more like a shouting match, but Keith disagreed with Harry and said he "freaking loved it!"
Later, Kellie took the stage again, this time with Tristan McIntosh. They sang Kellie's song "Best Days of Your Life". Tristan struggled a bit with pitch as Keith noted, "It was a little shaky pitch wise." Harry noticed that she "seemed to wander a bit." J.Lo praised her amazing voice, but added that Tristan needed find her groove and get comfortable on stage.
Olivia Rox, who delivered one of the best performances on Wednesday, and David were up next, singing David's "Light On". J.Lo said Olivia's voice was "truly phenomenal." Harry added that Olivia sang like "somebody that knows music."
Adam Lasher and Haley followed it up with their duet of "Can't Help Falling in Love". Haley wanted them to connect during the duet and it worked, as Harry said, "It looked like you guys were falling in love right before my eyes." Keith, however, thought that Adam was too stiff and needed to loosen up.
Dalton Rapattoni teamed up with Chris for a rocking performance of "Higher Ground". Continuing to show excellent performance, Dalton kept up with Chris and Keith dubbed it an "incredible" performance.
Next, Jordin joined Trent Harmon to sing "To Love Somebody" by The Bee Gees. It was another great pairing and Harry wanted him to keep performing like this when he sings solo.
Constantine and Shelbie Z's rendition of "Bohemian Rhapsody" rounded out the duets that night. J.Lo thought Shelbie was a little lost in it, and the song suited Constantine better than Shelbie. Harry said it was a tough song to do as a duet and Keith agreed.
After some deliberation, the judges eliminated five singers, Shelbie, Adam, CJ, Amelia and Kory. The other seven singers, Lee, Olivia, Jenn, Dalton, Manny, Tristan and Trent, joined La'Porsha, Sonika, Avalon, Gianna, Thomas, Mackenzie and Jeneve in the Top 14. They will sing live for the first time next week.
