Samuel L. Jackson is currently negotiating to join Screen Gems' action-comedy "The Black Phantom". Deadline reports that the actor is expected to play the title role, replacing Jamie Foxx who was forced to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.
The film will follow a clever double-crossed mob hitman, set to be played by Kevin Hart, who enlists the help of the Black Phantom, the same hitman who's been sent to kill him. The two end up forming a unique partnership together as they seek revenge.
Tim Story is attached to direct based on the script by Dave Lease and Megan Hinds. Will Gluck and Will Packer will produce while Screen Gems' president Clint Culpepper will oversee the project for the studio. There's still no word on when the production will begin.
Jackson, who will work with Hart for the first time in "The Black Phantom", most recently starred in "RoboCop" and "Captain America: The Winter Soldier". He will next be seen in "Kingsman: The Secret Service".
