NFSC Boss Salutes Nigeria’s Most Capped FIFA World Cup Journalist @ 60


The National Chairman of the Nigeria Football Supporters Club (NFSC)Rev. Samuel Ikpea has sent birthday wishes to Mr. Kunle Solaja.

In his message exclusively sent to Sports Intelligence Magazine, Rev. Samuel Ikpea wrote:

“Happy Birthday, King of Sports. Many Happy returns of the day. Do Have a fulfilled day and Best Wishes”.

Rev. Samuel Ikpea further described Kunle Solaja as a man of vision and purpose, whose significant contribution towards Sports Journalism in Nigeria has earned him professional cognizance at international event.

“I remember meeting with Solaja at the France 1998 FIFA World Cup when I made my FIFA World Cup debut as a member of the supporters Club, he was always focused and determined towards his job, and he is certainly one of the Journalists whom the younger ones must look up to”.

“Aside the France 1998 World Cup, we met at the Japan/Korea 2002 World Cup, South Africa 2010, Brazil 2014 and the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup”. “In all of these, Solaja have always demonstrated dedication in his chosen career, and as he clock 60 today, I wish him well” Ikpea concluded.

Kunle Solaja, a veteran and accomplished Sports Journalist was born on March 31, 1960. He is Nigeria’s most capped FIFA World Cup Sports Journalist, making his debut at the Italian 1990 FIFA World Cup.

It may interest all to know, that after Solaja made his debut at the FIFA 1990 World Cup, Nigeria made her debut at the USA 1994 FIFA World Cup, indicating that the veteran first attended the World Cup before Nigeria.

Kunle Solaja is the author of Landmark Books on Sports and Journalism, as well as being a multiple award-winning journalist and an editor of long standing. Since attending the Italian 1990 FIFA World Cup, Solaja has attended all the other FIFA World Cups including the Russia 2018 FIFA World Cup.
