David Bowie Breaks Adele's Vevo Record Days After His Death

The late musician's catalog garnered 51 million views in a 24-hour period on January 11, a day after his death was announced.

Adele's Vevo record seemed to be unbreakable at first. However, David Bowie showed the world nothing's impossible when he posthumously shattered the video-streaming site's single-day record previously set by his fellow British singer upon the release of her "Hello" video.

According to Vevo which hosted more than 60 videos by Bowie, the late musician's catalog was viewed more than 51 million times in a 24-hour period on January 11, one day after his death. His most recent visuals for "Lazarus" off his final album "Blackstar" was the most-watched video with 11.1 million plays.

The total number is the most views for any artist in one day in Vevo's history. Previous record holder Adele's catalog "only" generated 36 million views back on December 23, 2015, the day she premiered "Hello".

Bowie passed away over the weekend following 18-month battle with cancer. His last album "Blackstar", which he put out on his 69th birthday just two days earlier, is currently on track to open at No. 1 on next week's Billboard 200 and end the seven-week reign of Adele's 25
