The 45-year-old model was convicted of assault after she scratched the eye of a Sicilian paparazzo who took pictures of her and her former boyfriend in August 2009.
Naomi Campbell has been sentenced to six months in Italian prison. A Sicilian court gave Naomi a six-month suspended prison term on Friday, July 31 after she was convicted of assault for scratching a paparazzo's eye in August 2009.
Naomi's lawyer Guido Carlo Alleva vowed to appeal to the sentence. "We are appealing the ruling surrounding the 2009 incident. Due to the ongoing legal process, we cannot discuss the matter further at this time," Guido said in a statement.
Photographer Gaetano Di Giovanni was taking pictures of Naomi and her former boyfriend Vladimir Doronin as they stepped off their boat in the Sicilian town of Lipari. When Gaetano was snapping the couple, who was strolling through narrow streets, Naomi hit the photographer with her handbag and scratched one of his eyes.
The incident caused Gaetano to seek medical treatment. He took three days to recover. "I had just started taking some shots of her and I did not expect such a violent reaction," the paparazzo said in 2013 when Naomi was ordered to stand trial.
