Zelda Williams paid tribute to her father, Robin Williams, on the World Mental Health Day. She posted a series of tweets to raise awareness for mental health charity on Friday, October 10. She tweeted, "Today is #WorldMentalHealthDay. Mental illness is often misunderstood & misrepresented, but that's starting to change. Let's end the stigma."
She continued, "Mental health IS as important as physical health, & whether there are visible signs or not, the suffering is real. It can affect EVERYONE. So please, let's help stop the misconceptions & support those who need our help. Healing the whole starts with healing minds. No matter what the misinformed say, you can't simply CHOOSE to make mental illness go away. It is NOT cowardly to suffer or seek help."
Zelda then honored her late father, "Lastly, my dad openly fought depression his whole life, both in general and his own. No matter what anyone says, it is a FIGHT. Fight on."
In her tweets, Zelda also mentioned some mental health charities including Barrow Neurological Foundation and Hope for the Warriors.
Zelda returned to Twitter on September 1 after stepping back from social media for about a month following internet bullying. At that time, she posted, "Thank you," along with a quote from actor Harvey Fierstein which read, "Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself."
