Lagos ends Ebola kits distribution today
Ahead of tomorrow’s school resumption in Lagos, the State government yesterday said it would conclude the handing over of Ebola Virus Disease, EVD, preventive kits to schools today.
Governor, Babatunde Fashola last month postponed the resumption date earlier scheduled for September 21, following demands from the State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, NUT, that they would not resume until all public schools are provided with the approved EVD preventive kits.
Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Olayinka Oladunjoye who disclosed this to Vanguard, said that larger per cent of the kits have been distributed to the public schools ahead of their resumption for the 2014/2015 academic session.
She noted that the state government is ready to ensure that the schools are safe for the pupils and their teachers, as they commence new academic session.
Oladunjoye said: “Yes, larger per cent of the Ebola preventive kits have been provided for the schools. At the moment, final detailing is ongoing at the Blueroof, Agidingbi, Ikeja between the Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Health, Dr. Yewande Adeshina and stakeholders at the primary schools’ level in the state. This is where we are concluding the distribution of the Ebola preventive kits to public schools in the state.”
The commissioner stated that the concluding stage of the distribution exercise which commenced on Monday, “will be finalised tomorrow (today).”
She explained that the two days set aside for the final process is to allow the state and the teachers to double check the preventive kits distributed.
