Nigeria Start Title Defense With 0-1 Loss To Ivory Coast

The national U23 team began the defence of thier title at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a 1-0 defeat from their counterparts from Cote d’voire in their first group match played on saturday.

Ivory Coast slim victory came through a controversial penalty that was adjudged goal by the center referee.

The loss to Ivory Coast push the defending champions to the bottom of the group B table

The Super Eagles B team will also play Zambia and South Africa in their remaining group matches.

Meanwhile, the second group B match between South African and Zambia ended in barren draw, this means, the Super Eagles are at the bottom of the table.

Eagles will need maximum three points against Zambia on Tuesday to rekindle the hope of progressing to the semifinals of the competition. The first three country at the championship will pick the three 2020 Olympics tickets to represent Africa in Tokyo.
