The 'Black-Ish' Star Is Accused Of Assaulting A Woman Who Catered An Event Thrown By The Actor Over A Year Ago.
Anthony Anderson is accused of assaulting a woman who previously catered an event thrown by the actor. The "Black-ish" actor is currently under criminal investigation after the alleged victim filed a police report with the Hollywood Division of LAPD earlier this year, but the actor strongly denies the allegations.
The Blast reports that the incident happened over a year ago after the alleged victim met the 47-year-old comedian at an event he threw. After that event, they reportedly met for the second time to discuss future business opportunity and that's when the alleged assault occurred.
The woman only reported the incident now because she felt comfortable enough to come forward, partly due to the #MeToo movement, sources say. LAPD has confirmed the investigation, saying, "We have a crime report listing him as a suspect in a crime. It is an open investigation."
Details of the alleged incident are still unclear, but Anderson has strongly denied the accusations. His spokesperson says, "It's unfortunate that anyone can file a police report whether it is true or false. The authorities have not contacted Anthony or any of his representatives about this matter. Anthony unequivocally disputes the claim."
This is not the first time the four-time Emmy-nominated actor has been facing serious accusations. Back in 2004, an extra on set of the Oscar-winning movie "Hustle & Flow" claimed Anderson and an assistant director raped her in a trailer on the Memphis set. The case was later dropped though, after the woman's testimony failed to produce probable cause to warrant the charges standing.
Anderson married his college sweetheart Alvina in 1995. They have two children, Kyra and Nathan.
Anderson is currently starring on ABC's sitcom "Black-ish", which has received many awards and nominations. The show has been praised for its "diverse cast" and dealing with "engaging cultural issues" in a way that it educates and entertains at the same time.
