Mel Gibson Wants Battery Conviction to Be Erased

Gibson, who pleaded no contest to domestic violence involving his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in 2011, reportedly asks judge to expunge the no-contest plea from his record.

Mel Gibson's battery conviction reportedly to be erased from his record. Gibson pleaded no contest to one misdemeanor count of domestic violence involving his ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva in 2011 and now TMZ reports that his lawyer has filed documents, asking judge to expunge the no-contest plea from his record.

Back in 2010, Grigorieva accused the actor of punching her in the face. Gibson, however, said that he only slapped her because she was shaking their daughter's body. "I slapped Oksana one time with an open hand in an attempt to bring her back to reality. I did not slap her hard. I was just trying to shock her so that she would stop screaming, continuing shaking Lucia back and forth," he said.

In March 2011, he was sentenced to three years probation, domestic violence counseling program, community service and fines. Gibson has completed the order, including 16-hours of community service and 52 weeks of counseling. His probation ended in March. A hearing for the request is set to take place later this month.

Gibson was most recently seen sporting some beard while in a gym in L.A. in late April. He next will take part in a movie called "Blood Father" alongside Erin Moriarty. The action flick tells the story of an ex-con who tries to protect his estranged 16-year-old daughter from drug dealers who want to kill her.
