Chadwick Boseman's Brother Marks Two Years Of Being In Remission From Cancer

His Celebratory Post On Instagram Comes Just Months After His Actor Brother Passed Away From Colon Cancer That He Had Been Battling Privately For Four Years.

One of Chadwick Boseman's brothers is winning his battle with cancer. Just months after losing the "Black Panther" star to colon cancer, Kevin Boseman took to social media to reveal that he had been diagnosed with a similar illness in 2018, and to celebrate him being in remission for two years.

The 48-year-old shared the good news via Instagram Stories on Wednesday, October 14. "Today marks my official two-year remission anniversary. October 14, 2020," he first spilled. "I was diagnosed with cancer in 2018 and underwent four rounds of chemotherapy. I'm in remission!!!!! You read right. I am in remission."

Admitting that he "only shared the diagnosis with a few people at that time," the older brother of the "Da 5 Bloods" actor explained why he finally went public about it. "I wanted to share because, while it's been a year of profound loss and tragedy for so many of us, this is good news. Something to smile about. Something to shout about," he elaborated.

"I hope you're smiling and shouting with me. Cancer is something most of us have no control over. We can only control our responses to it, which includes being proactive about our healthcare, both physical and emotional," Kevin continued. Urging fans to go for a check up if "something feels off," he added, "Tomorrow is not promised and early detection saves lives."

Kevin's celebratory post came just months after Chadwick passed away at the age of 43 from colon cancer which he had been battling privately for four years. On August 28, their family confirmed the devastating news through a statement posted on his social media accounts.

"It is with immeasurable grief that we confirm the passing of Chadwick Boseman," the sad announcement read. "Chadwick was diagnosed with stage III colon cancer in 2016, and battled with it these last 4 years as it progressed to stage IV."

In the wake of Chadwick's passing, Kevin shared publicly his last moment with the late actor. During an interview with the New York Times in early October, he recalled, "I have been trying to remember Chad and not Chadwick. And there's just been a lot of Chadwick in the air. You have to start sharing that person with the world; I always endeavored to just treat him like my brother."

Kanye West Brags About Getting People Scared After Jennifer Aniston Warns Against Voting For Him

The 'Horrible Bosses' Actress Previously Pleaded With Her Instagram Followers To 'Be Responsible' And Not To Vote For The 'Gold Digger' Rapper Because 'It's Not Funny.'

Kanye West has responded after Jennifer Aniston warned people against voting for him. Seemingly proud that he's got people anxious with his presidential campaign, the rapper bragged about having such influence on others.

"Wow," the Yeezy designer wrote in a since-deleted tweet. "That Rogan interview got em shook. Let's gooooooooo." He included a screenshot of Vanity Fair's article about Jennifer's plea and her endorsement for Joe Biden

Kanye was referring to his appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast, but Jennifer didn't seem to make her statement in regards to the said interview, which is probably why the husband of Kim Kardashian eventually deleted the post.

Kanye previously came under fire after he urged people to write his name on mail-in ballot. Earlier this month, he shared a photo of a ballot with his name written in, despite his name being printed on the page already. "Friends writing me in," he wrote along with the image.

Jennifer, meanwhile, took to her Instagram page on October 23 to remind people to "be responsible" with their voice. Sharing a photo of herself dropping off her mail-in ballot at the official box, she noted in her lengthy message, "It's not funny to vote for Kanye. I don't know how else to say it. Please be responsible."

The "Murder Mystery" star also declared her support for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris. "#IVOTED for @joebiden and @kamalaharris," she wrote. "I voted for them because right now this country is more divided than ever."

In another tweet, Kanye confirmed that he's building a "city of the future" in Haiti. "Just to be CLEAR: WE ARE IN ENGAGED WITH HAITI's GOVERNMENT to make a transformational INVESTMENT to bring JOBS, DEVELOPMENT, HELP SUPPORT LOCAL FARMERS and FISHERMEN and Build a new « CITY OF THE FUTURE » in a very beautiful country," so he claimed

Lalong made the threat after an assessment tour of the state to ascertain the level of damage of some public and private properties perpetuated by the miscreants.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Governor was accompanied on the visit by members of the Plateau Caucus in the National Assembly who were in the state to commiserate with him over the incident.

He said host communities should be responsible for the protection of public properties in their domain, and cautioned them against their destruction.

You can’t brush Lekki killings under carpet, Fani-Kayode blasts Tinubu

By: Idowu Bankole

A former Aviation Minister and foremost Chieftain of the main opposition party in Nigeria, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has on Sunday blasted the former governor of Lagos state and the current National leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu over comments on the Lekki shootings. Reacting to a statement credited to Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, where he said, “Casualties of Lekki shootings have questions to answer.” Fani-Kayode noted that the response of the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu to Lekki killings is attempting to blame the protesters for their own deaths and for being blown apart by callous men in Military fatigue.

Fani-Kayode stated that sadly instead of exhibiting any remorse or displaying any regret for the abominable atrocity, with a smile and jocular tone, the APC national leader reportedly said nothing other than I am “still the Asiwaju of Lagos and the Jagaban”

In a short essay made available to VANGUARD, Fani Kayode said he would not be cowed and mesmerised to speak the truth even if everyone has decided no keep quiet. Fani-Kayode said, “Even if the whole country is cowed and mesmerised by Tinubu and applauds his callousness, vanity, subterfuge, deceit, ruthlessness, obsessive ambitions, lack of fear of God and doublespeak I FFK, the Voice of the Voiceless, the Servant of Truth, the Lover of God, the Beloved of the Lord, the Otunba of Jogaland, the Sadaukin Shinkafi, the Odum Agu and the Odugwu Eze will not. “His spell cannot silence, bind or blind me as it has done to others. I see him for what he is and his vain and boastful words here (Tinubu’s reaction to Lekki killings) have confirmed it.

To think I once loved and admired you gives me sleepless nights and goose pimples. How could I have been so blind?” Fani-Kayode citing previous incidents, recalled reactions that trailed Pa Fasoranti’s daughter’s death when she was shot dead by alleged herdsmen. “When Baba Fasoranti’s daughter was murdered by Fulani herdsmen he reportedly made a mockery of it, went to his house and asked: “where are the cows?” “This was insensitive, callous and painful and all the more so because when the murderers of this much-loved and referred lady were eventually apprehended and arrested they were indeed Fulani herdsmen even though their cows were not arrested with them.”

The latest episode in your catalogue of insensitivities is that children that were protesting peacefully and asking for #EndSARS and an end to police brutality have been slaughtered at Lekki TollGate in Lagos under your watch as National Leader of the APC.” “Sadly instead of exhibiting any remorse or displaying any regret for this abominable atrocity, with a sheepish smile and a sneering and jocular tone, you had the sheer nerve and effrontery to say nothing other than that you are “still the Asiwaju of Lagos and the Jagaban?”  Fani-Kayode said. “Yet what was even worse than this and what shocked and astounded all right-thinking people all the more was that Tinubu had the temerity to go on even further to say that the “casualties at the Lekki shooting have some questions to answer!”

He then asked,  “how are they there?”, “how long were they there?” and “what kind of characters were they?” How cruel can he be? Not a word of condolence or expression of commiseration were reportedly said to the families of the dead but instead, you offered questions and baseless accusations against their wards and children who were butchered in the most brutal circumstances and heartless manner.” “He has no self-respect, Children were murdered in our streets and this is all you have to say? “You are attempting to blame them for being shot to death and blown to pieces by a bunch of genocidal maniacs in uniform who subjected them to crimes against humanity, genocide and mass murder” “You seek to cover up these horrendous crimes and you are attempting to dishonour and denigrate the dead and desecrate and mock the great sacrifice of these courageous young martyrs for democracy who were murdered in cold blood on the front lines in the field of battle?”

“Let me tell him this: Tinubu’s diversionary plan will not work! This matter will not go away! “He will not brush it under the carpet, you will not play it down, he and Sanwoolu will not escape responsibility for failing to protect our people from the beastly savages that slaughtered them and their scurrilous attempt to muddy the waters, cover up the truth and pervert the course of justice will be exposed” “He only harbours love, which borders on obsession, for your vain and lofty ambition to rule Nigeria and trust me when I tell you that this will never happen.” To add to that the Holy Bible says “the Lord resists the proud and exalts the humble”. I counsel and urge him to ponder and meditate deeply on these words. I advise him to humble yourself before God, get to know Him, learn to fear Him and seek justice and truth before it is too late!

How corruption, nepotism killed SARS – Ex-IGP Suleiman Abba

By: Chris Onuoha

Suleiman Abba, Inspector General of Police under the Jonathan administration, is Chairman, Board of Trustees of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund. In this interview first aired on Channels Television, Abba speaks on the crisis rocking the police. If you are to diagnose the crisis in the police, especially SARS, what will you say?

The first reason SARS is in crisis is because of nepotism. Nepotism comes in when those in leadership try to bring in their own people. The second reason SARS lost it is corruption. And this is associated with the problem of leadership. When you don’t have direct supervision, the likelihood is that people will try as much as possible to satisfy whoever will prevent them from having 100 per cent freedom, you do whatever you like, you investigate cases the way you want, detain people for as many days as you want and perhaps cause loss of lives because nobody is supervising you properly. That is one aspect of it. The other aspect is when focus is completely lost simply because of the combination of corruption and lack of leadership. And this leads to so many things. These boys get overworked because they don’t have control. They now go out looking for cases.

During our time, we didn’t send SARS on the roads. They went out as a strike force. If it was a rescue mission, they do it and return to the office. If the mission was to arrest robbers, they do so and return to the office. On the claims that policemen carry POS machines to extort victims Never in my wildest imagination did I think I would see SARS operatives checking vehicles on the road, wearing slippers, wearing wrong dresses. They are supposed to be properly dressed. They are investigators. So they can appear in mufti. But they became a rogue unit in the police. And the irony of it all is that our police officers, when they go for international missions, they shine…

Even in SARS, you have among them very good officers. I recall in 2000, there was a case of armed robbery in Abuja that saw me leading the operation. I went to Lagos to investigate the case and used SARS officers throughout. We did the first arrest at Ikorodu, second arrest at Federal Palace Hotel, we went to Warri, we went to Agbor, arrested the last batch of suspects at Agura Hotel. Some of the victims were highly placed Nigerians and the gang of armed robbers operated in two groups: one operating in Asokoro and Maitama, and the other operating at Garki and Wuse.

Amid the public distrust of the police, they have the constitutional responsibility to maintain law and order in the society. Where do we go from here? We got to where we are in the police because of three things: High handedness on the part of police officers, corruption and nepotism. Now we are here, how do we get out? Listen to divergent views of all stakeholders/actors: Leadership of the police, government and everyone involved in the peace process. Everyone needs to sit down and negotiate.

I became the IGP in August 2014. During my tenure, there were no SARS operatives on the road. Community policing is the way out of this crisis. Under this arrangement, the community tells the police how they want to be policed. I implore the people to let the police demonstrate what the community wants. There have been quite a number of important moves. SWAT is one of them and the unit will be deployed only when there is the need like it is done in the USA.

I am opportune to lead the Police Trust Fund. The objective is to train and retrain police officers, buy equipment and provide office buildings, ensure welfare, etc. If you look at the reports of all the past committees on police reforms, they talked about three things: adequate funding of the police, manpower and welfare/remuneration. Now look at the objectives of the trust fund. It means the trust fund should take the lead and we will live up to expectation.

#ENDSARS: An Ugly Turn of Events

Infiltrated by miscreants, countered by hired thugs and bloodied at Lekki Tollgate by soldiers, the EndSARS youth protests, which forced potential policy changes and got the world’s attention, retreats. Louis Achi Writes

In a virtual meeting with former Heads of State and Presidents of Nigeria, 48 hours ago, President Muhammadu Buhari said it was unfortunate that the initial genuine and well-intended protest of youths in parts of the country against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) was hijacked and misdirected.

At the meeting were all past leaders, including Gen. Yakubu Gowon, President Olusegun Obasanjo, Gen. Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, Chief Ernest Shonekan, Gen. Abulsalami Abubakar and former President Goodluck Jonathan.

The president recounted the initial concessions made by his administration on the demands of youths protesting against the excesses of some members of the SARS. He recalled that the youths had demanded that the squad be disbanded.

Specifically, he listed the additional demands made by the EndSARS protesters. These included the immediate release of all arrested protesters; Justice for deceased victims of police brutality and appropriate compensation for their families; setting up an independent body to oversee the investigation and prosecution of all reports of Police misconduct within 10 days; psychological evaluation and re-training of all disbanded SARS officers before they can be re-deployed; and increase in Police salary.

Then, perhaps, to his main point, Buhari declared: “We accepted all the demands and proceeded immediately to scrap SARS and started the process of addressing the other demands. Unfortunately, the protesters refused to call off the protest and engage the government to address their grievances. Instead, they became emboldened and gradually turned violent.”

Further according to him, the government would not fold its arms and allow miscreants and criminals continue to perpetrate acts of hooliganism in the country.

Analysing President Buhari’s first national broadcast addressing the two-week long EndSARS protests by angry but very organised and peaceful youths, a wide swathe of commentators and stakeholders pilloried the president for keeping mum on the alleged Lekki killings of unarmed protesters by soldiers.

But the president’s minders have explained away that faux pas on the need for the Defence Headquarters and Lagos State government to conclude their investigations.

Various estimations put the number of deaths related to the nationwide protests at over 70. These include civilian protesters, policemen and soldiers. Countless individuals were also wounded and massive damages to property and assets were sustained.

It is a fact that youths coming together in joint action have served as a major engine of social transformation throughout human history. At key moments, younger generations have repeatedly acted to challenge and influence the dismantling of systems of oppression, subordination and injustice.

Today, youth-led collective action is proving decisive in combating global challenges. From fighting for the environment, to protecting and expanding human rights to demanding economic justice, young folks are at the forefront of change.

An emerging consensus is that though the youth protest focused mainly on Police brutality while the government curiously looks away, the rage and vehemence is deeper and have been caged up for many years. The intensity of feelings expressed and distrust at related government rhetoric hints at a fundamental message that core changes in both policing matters and governance templates must be holistically addressed.

The assumption that Nigerian youths are lazy and lack the will or focus to sustain any meaningful protests has been emphatically laid to rest. The massive, peaceful and well-organised youth-centered EndSARS protests, in much of the country, keys into the rejection of oppression and injustice in any form.

After the Lekki condemnable attacks on protesters following a curfew declared by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, the youth protesters have apparently gone on informal recess. A new phase of their engagement with government should be the next logical step – to ensure that the changes promised are genuinely delivered.

For instance, according to Pastor Poju Oyemade, “The streets peaceful protest is over but the opportunity for change within the legal framework is now wide open. The real effort behind the scenes can now begin. Channel the energy right. It takes time to bring about change. You cannot be hasty.

“The streets have a life span, it is good but when it can no longer be peaceful it works against you. Build a party or become delegates. Energy for change must be channeled through the political process. One big step is to become delegates, who elect the candidates within a party structure. This is one of the most influential positions in the process, which is accessible and easy to reach today.”

Pastor Poju Oyemade’s prescription may well be one out of possible several reasoned engagement options before the youths.

While former President Goodluck Jonathan had cautioned that “No Nigerian blood needs to be spilled or life lost during a peaceful protest that seeks to advance our country,” considerable human blood has been unjustifiably spilled. Their memories need to be respected.

Even at press time, reports still kept filtering in of hoodlums on rampage and disrupting legitimate citizens’ activity, both the Southern and Northern states. Meanwhile, for the majority of Nigerians, it’s yet morning on creation day.
